First Visit

New to Shift?

That’s great, and we are so excited for you to visit us.

Trying something new can be intimidating…so we’re here for you. Whether you’re new to climbing or have been at it for years, we’ll make sure you have what you need to get started and feel comfortable doing it.

What to Expect?

A friendly staff, fun movements, and a vibe unlike anywhere else.

From our courteous guest-first staff, to our fun and innovative routesetting (how our climbs get put on the wall), to our curated selection of brews and bites... you’re in for a treat.

With nearly 20 years of experience opening and running climbing gyms across the US, we made SHIFT to be unique, and we made SHIFT to be for you.

01

Fill Out a Waiver

Everyone visiting our space needs to have a waiver filled out by an adult or legal guardian. Save yourself (or your kids) some time by filling one out now.
02

Sign Up for a Class

You’re welcome to come in and shape your own session, but if you’re new to SHIFT, we recommend kicking things off with one of our classes. Our instructors will introduce you to the space and help level up the fun during your first visit.
03

Buy a Pass

Choose the pass that best suits your needs. We offer a variety of day pass and membership options that help you get the most out of your time with us.
04

Come on in!

We seriously can’t wait to welcome you into our space and climb with you.

Have questions?

That’s normal! Check out our FAQ below to see if we answer some of them. If that itch still needs scratchin’, give us a call or ask any of our staff once you arrive!

What is Shift all about?

We at Shift seek to create the most unique, quality, and innovative climbing experience in the industry while also fostering the most supportive, hospitable, and caring staff and community found anywhere. To learn more about us click here.

What is bouldering?

Bouldering is a form of rock climbing where technical challenges are presented on shorter climbs, or “boulder problems”, rather than testing endurance on longer climbing known as “routes”. In bouldering, there are no ropes, but don’t let that scare you! Boulder problems are usually 10-15 ft tall and climbers can either climb back down to the ground when finished or fall onto big, soft pads that help soften the impact.

What are Circuits?

Circuits are the groups of climbs in our space designated by hold color. These colors represent the general difficulty of the climb. Each color circuit features a balanced and diverse set of movements meant to test climbers in many different ways. We encourage everyone to give "circuiting" (trying to climb an entire color) a try - it's one of the most fun and challenging ways to experience the gym! To learn more about circuits, click here.

Why Circuits?

We were inspired by the legendary climbing circuits of Fontainebleau, France - one of the world's best outdoor climbing areas. Climbing circuits is such a fun, challenging, rewarding, and social experience, we wanted to use that same experience to build a great climbing community in Holland.

What do I need to get started?

You’ll definitely want to go ahead and fill out a waiver to save yourself some time once you get here. After that, go ahead and buy a day pass if you want to save some more! Remember, anyone under 18 needs a waiver filled out by their legal guardian before climbing.

Do I need to make a reservation?

Nope! Feel free to stop by anytime we’re open and stay as long as you’d like. If you want to take a class, it’d be a good idea to go ahead and sign up just in case it fills up quickly.

What’s the minimum age for bouldering? Or What do I need to know about Youth Climbing?

Anyone 14 years or older may climb unsupervised in our space. Anyone under 14 years old must be actively and directly supervised by a guardian or chaperone during the entirety of their visit. Climbing is inherently dangerous and proper management of youth helps us mitigate risks for all climbers.

What should I wear?

We recommend wearing loose or stretchy clothing that you’re comfortable doing new movements in. We ask that everyone visiting our facility wears a shirt or tank top.

What do I need to bring?

We recommend climbing in climbing shoes and with a chalk bag (it helps keep your hands dry). We do not allow barefoot climbing and provide free rental shoes with the purchase of a day pass! Other than that, just make sure you bring your psych and a growth-mindset and you’re ready to go!

How many people can I bring with me?

If you have a big family, be sure to check out our family membership page. If you are part of a planned event with 6 or more people, will have 6 or more youth with you, or want to schedule something special, please contact.

Can I bring my dog?

With how tight climbing shoes can be, there will be enough barkin' dogs in here. Sorry, no pups allowed at Shift.

You’re Gonna Love Climbing!
We remember our first time...how nervous we were, how intimidating it felt, and all the feelings of excitement. We’re here to make sure your first time memories are just as lasting (and maybe life changing?) as ours!
